do some research on forensic investigation software. those people within the IT induistry usually work with recovering data.

There are many pieces of software that can recover deleted files. It is one of the most basic tasks for the forensic investigator. Check out this tutorial .

Whilst I am in no way to be considered a professional I have found that "hirens boot cd" is a very useful but of kit, kind of like a Swiss Army knife for pcs. It has a host of tools for recovering data, as well as imaging the host pc's hard drive and lots more besides. Simply download the ISO then burn it as a bootable USB. Plug the USB into the target machine and, upon boot up, enter the bios and get it to boot from USB rather than the hd and job's a good 'un.http://www.hiren.info/pages/bootcd

Stupid question, where's the download button for the iso? :D
I only see a list with all tools and there download links but no direct link to the iso image.
