TL;DR- you have to update your sources and if you have manual git clones or Lazykali installed you can't use apt and instead have to download and install from scratch.

FAUX is the go. update your sources, perform the update, upgrade and the dist-upgrade.. reboot and ya all good.

just add the word"sana" int your sources.list
do it as MATT BRENNAN said, inside your source.list u can either replace the whole text there with this:
deb http://http.kali.org/kali sana main non-free contrib
deb http://security.kali.org/kali-security sana/updates main contrib non-free

then run the commands for updating, upgrading the apps and the dist
