so i'm not calling for a riot just curious so if we wanted to take down the nsa what would be the amount of resources and how would you do it?

A world wild calling for hackers, a massive botnet to perform attacks, a few inside men/women, China support and a few leprechauns for good luck.

Let's see. NSA is backed by US, along with various other organisations, and all the governing sectors. So, if you exert a force slightly greater than what NSA can handle, you'll just be wasting billions of dollars.

How to take it down...that's tougher. There are 2 types of attacks: brute force and vulnerability exploitation. I guess that should help.

And, of course, that involves taking down the entire USA, and destroy any foreign obstructions in your path.

How much money...I have no idea how the economy would react to this crisis. But expect it to be at least a trillion dollars.

Then the structures get more complicated, and unless you're really obsessed with either of the effects, I wouldn't suggest it.

Find a solution to national security that is more effective and less intruding that what the NSA is currently doing.

That's one of the two legal ways of knocking them out. The other is if another scandal gets loose and the people decide it's too much.
